Owning it together: marking Employee Ownership Day at Carbon Creative

Back to all Articles Posted: 24 June 2026

This Employee Ownership Day, we took some time out of the studio to celebrate something that has become a really important part of who we are at Carbon Creative.

On Friday 19 June, our whole team spent the day together to mark EO Day 2026 which is the UK’s annual celebration of employee-owned businesses. This year’s theme, #OwningIt, feels especially fitting for us.

For Carbon, employee ownership is more than just a business model. It shapes how we work every day. Since becoming employee-owned in 2022, we’ve been continuing to shape an agency where everyone has a voice, everyone has a stake, and everyone plays a part in where the business goes next. It has helped us build a culture rooted in shared responsibility, openness and long-term thinking, exactly the kind of culture that supports better work, stronger relationships and more meaningful growth.

Why employee ownership matters to us

Carbon has always been built around people. Our work spans brand, campaigns, websites, motion and digital, but behind every project is a team of strategists, designers, developers, project managers, and creatives working together to make something that matters. Employee ownership gives that teamwork even more meaning.

It encourages us to think beyond individual roles or departments and look at the bigger picture: how we support each other, how we serve our clients, how we grow sustainably, and how we continue building a business we’re proud to be part of. It also gives everyone a greater connection to the decisions being made. When people feel listened to, trusted and included, it creates a stronger sense of purpose. That has a real impact on the way we work both with each other and with our clients.

Taking time to step back

Like many creative and digital agencies, life at Carbon moves quickly. There are briefs to shape, websites to build, campaigns to deliver and deadlines to meet.

So, for Employee Ownership Day, we’re stepping away from the day-to-day and taking time to pause, reflect and reconnect as a team.

Our day out of the studio is a chance to celebrate how far we’ve come, but also to look ahead. We’ll be using the time to think about what employee ownership means for Carbon now, what it could mean in the future, and how we can continue making the agency an even better place to work.

Employee ownership works best when it is active and it needs conversation, contribution and shared ambition. EO Day gives us a moment to bring all of that to the surface.

Growing with shared purpose

Over the past year, Carbon has continued to grow and evolve. We’ve moved into our new studio in MediaCity, strengthened our leadership structure and celebrated internal progression across the team. These moments matter because they show what sustainable growth can look like when people are at the centre of it.

As an employee-owned agency, we want our growth to be shaped by the people who are helping to make it happen.

What #OwningIt means at Carbon

This year’s EO Day theme, #OwningIt, captures something we talk about often.

What owning it means to us:

  • Taking pride in our work.
  • Being honest, thoughtful and proactive.
  • Supporting each other when things are busy.
  • Bringing ideas forward and feeling confident that they will be heard.
  • Caring about the business not because we have to, but because we are part of it.

That shared sense of ownership is something we want to keep nurturing as Carbon continues to move forward.

Employee Ownership Day is a great opportunity to celebrate that, but the real value is in what happens every other day of the year, in the conversations, decisions, ideas and actions that shape the business from the inside out.

We’re proud to be employee-owned and proud to be building Carbon together.

And this EO Day, we took a moment to celebrate exactly that.
